For the second year running, Soham faced Kings Lynn in the Eastern Counties U20’s cup final. Following a very comfortable win over Cottenham earlier in the day, Kings Lynn seemed in good form and it was shaping up to be a great final.
For the second time in a row Soham faced the current league leaders. This time it was Kings Lynn who had leapfrogged Grimsby since our last outing. Soham were down to five outfield players after a red card from a Kings Lynn referee in our win against Grimsby.
Grimsby arrived at Ross Peers on Saturday night on the back of some good results, top of the league with 3 points clear of the field. Once the whistle blows reputations count for nothing with Soham starting well, good possession hockey, probing and exploiting gaps in the Grimsby defence. In fact Soham dominated and totally outplayed Grimsby in the first half, closing at half time 7-0 up.
Well done to the following Soham members who were selected to play for their regions over the bank holiday weekend:
Lewis Cakebread, Robbie Allander, Ryan Norton, Tom Allander, Josh Branchett
And a special congratulations to Soham’s Tom Allander and Scott Neville who coached the Eastern Region’s under 17’s and under 20’s teams respectively to victory.
